Page Blackie Gallery artist, Reuben Paterson, is included in Christchurch Art Gallery’s current exhibition ‘Op + Pop’ on until 19 June. The show examines the continued influence of two major international twentieth-century art movements—Op Art and Pop Art—on New Zealand art. Op, born in Britain in the early 1960s, and Pop, which started in the United States in the late 1950s, opened up dynamic new possibilities for making art.
Reuben’s work, Te Putahitanga o Rehua (2005) is included in the group show and involves a continuous animation being projected onto a billboard-sized glitter screen.
